Solid hard sci-fi, with a dash of mystery and suspense thrown in. Maybe more of a 3.5 star book, but still enjoyable.
This is a standalone hard sci-fi novel by a pretty prolific writer, who has written several in the Star Wars univers. It was a pretty good read. Sometimes, it got bogged down in descriptions of far future hardware and star jumps and gravity fields that made my eyes glaze over. And it was a little bit of the kind of book I don't like - a quest. This time, at least, it was flying and just trying to get to a destination. And it also had too much of the main character (it was told in first person) thinking of something but not telling the reader, and arbitrarily keeping the reader in the dark.
But in the end, the twist was worth the subterfuge, I guess. It was a fun wrap up to a pretty darned good book. I'm going to try a few more by this guy, beginning with [b:Specter of the Past|77787|Specter of the Past (Star Wars The Hand of Thrawn Duology, #1)|Timothy Zahn|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1326718522s/77787.jpg|1134058], the first book in the Hand of Thrawn duology.
