I read this book for the first time when I was probably 10-years-old. Rerading it as an adult gave me an entirely different prospective on the book. Jenny is a shy little black who doesn't have a whole lot of confidence at the beginning of the book but through these five stories, Jenny does grow up a bit throughout the stories. In each of the stories she learns a valuable lesson.
It's sort of strange how Jenny tal'ks to the human that owns her, but I guess it'd not be a kids book if there wasn't a bit of silliness.
