Adam de Courtney is a dark character, who insists on pushing people away. Lady Euphemia Marlington is a 32-year-old woman, who marries Adam to avoid an arranged marriage by her father, and without knowing the entirety of the story (as told by the public) about Adam.
One or the other attempts to seduce the other regularly throughout the book, in various ways and means. I found it hard to believe at times, but never to the point that I had to move on. Enjoyable, if a little baffling.
