Moonlight, sake, spring blossom, idle moments, a woman's hair - these exquisite reflections on life's fleeting pleasures by a thirteenth-century Japanese monk are delicately attuned to nature and the senses.

Review of 'A Cup of Sake Beneath the Cherry Trees' on 'Goodreads'

I was kind of surprised by how modern this was. I guess a lot comes down to the translation. But it struck me that a monk 700 years ago had ideas that seem so contemporary, nevertheless.
Sometimes I forget that my ancestors must have had similar troubles than we do now, at least to some extent.

But there were some misogynistic undertones here and there so I didn't enjoy all of it.

Overall, it was a nice and very short read.
