The idea of creating a realistic backstory for J.M. Barrie's famous ageless boy is a good one, and the ideas themselves seem reasonable. While listening to this audio book immediately after listening to Barrie's Peter & Wendy is not advisable, because it is like going from a clever, magical, whimsical and original book to a rather standard adventure story, I wouldn't say that the difference in tone is, in and of itself, objectionable.
The problem is, I just find the book rather dull. Now admittedly it is a children's book and I am not a child (and arguably Barrie's book was less a children's book than a whimsical book about children), but I can still enjoy a good children's book, like any of the Harry Potter series.

In spite of initial doubts, I read a good chunk of this, but finally gave up during a scene in which everything is finally explained to Peter, because it was nothing more than endless, expository writing of the worst kind. To put up with such a long, dry explanation I would have had to be far more interested in the book's rather obvious mysteries than I was.
