5 stars

Lucy is an exceptional kid: she was struck by lightning when she was young and is now savant-level skilled at math. She also suffers from OCD that manifests primarily as germaphobia. So when her grandmother insists she enroll in seventh grade at the local middle school, Lucy has plenty of challenges ahead of her as she attempts to fit in with her peers for the first time. Along the way, she deals with friend drama and trying to save a sick dog. Lucy's unique worldview is the most fascinating part of the book to me; she perceives everything around her in terms of numbers, and also has synesthesia that connects numbers to colors. I appreciate the emotional honesty of the book as well, and how not everything wrapped up neatly at the end. A great read for realistic fiction fans.
