Review of "Kushiel's Legacy : (Kushiel's Dart, Kushiel's Chosen, Kushiel's Avatar)" on 'Goodreads'
2 stars
Themes of enslavement, extreme bondage, rape, child indoctrination into prostitution make this very hard to digest. All of the characters are interesting, regardless of whether they fall on the spectrum of good and evil. But, ultimately, I have a hard time understanding the narrator's fond memories of her childhood, given she's writing at a later date.
The first two story arcs were the hardest with the themes mentioned. The end of the second arc and the last arc made the book for me, as Phedre takes charge, and develops into a strong character.
That said, I doubt I'd read this again. I'm undecided about trying book 2.
