Review of "Don't Breathe a Word" on 'Goodreads'

This book made me feel kind of yucky. Unhappy families, unhappy people, not feeling worthy -- it was a little hard to read.[return][return]What kept me going was the very complicated mystery, which I HAD to read to the end. I kept wondering "is this going to be supernatual or not?", which was enjoyable.[return][return]What disappointed me was the details that either were later not related to the mystery, contradicted, improbable or not discussed again. For instance, why was Evie's childhood self so masculine, and then no mention of her self as an adult discussed how her gender identity played out? It's a small thing, but important to understanding the character.[return][return]So many interesting threads, I wish more had been done to give them an end point. If the superfluous details were removed, I think the story wouldn't be as interesting, or enjoyable to read because of the depressing characters.
