Excellent writing, main character has a lot of depth, plenty of mystery and surprises

As I was reading this I kept thinking I'm sure I read this book before, but somehow I only remembered certain plot points and not the writing, and it wasn't published that long ago. Maybe it's brain fog, but certainly not the writing, Dennis Lehane's prose reliably sweeps along and there are fascinating characters and twists and turns to this story.

Review of 'Since We Fell' on 'Goodreads'

This book felt like a slapdash effort to write a movie script, and is filled with improbable coincidences meant to advance the plot, along with a hard to believe protagonist who's a journalist turned con woman.

Rachel suspects her husband Brian of gaslighting her, exploiting her panic disorder to make her unsure of herself. She believes Brian is caught up in something beyond the lumber business he owns and is frustrated by his lying. But suffering PTSD from a journalism stint in Haiti after the earthquake, she is never quite sure of her perceptions.

Despite a less than stellar effort by Lehane, and all of the truly non-credible people and events that populate this novel, I couldn't put it down. I suppose that's a testament to the author's remarkable story telling prowess. (and, BTW, the movie rights have been sold)
