mikerickson reviewed Heated Rivalry by Rachel Reid

I've developed a reputation of being somewhat of a contrarian outlier in my book club, and this book certainly isn't helping me beat those allegations. Everyone else (and pop culture at large at the moment) seemed to love this book that had me scratching my head as to when anything resembling a plot was going to appear.
This book felt like a puff of empty air. We spend too much time with the two leads, who I never grew to care about, and not enough with any of the few paper-thin side characters I hoped would flesh out the 'story,' for lack of a better term. There is only one actual play-by-play description of a hockey game happening, and it lasts for all of three (admittedly exciting) paragraphs. There is an unnecessary amount of sterile sex scenes and an ending that felt unearned.
There was just nothing here. …

There was just nothing here. I almost don't even want to write a review because I feel like there isn't enough to comment on. Everything this book tried to do I've seen done better before. But at least the romance girlies seem to be having fun, so I'll just wait outside until we move onto the next thing.
