The 1st-person POV took a chapter or two to grow on me, but it eventually did. The 3rd act is unputdownable.

Love the show, decided to check out the books. Tough to get Welliver, Reddick, and Hector out of my head... so gave up trying. A lot of unnecessary description, mainly of character actions. Stuff like: He bought a lighter because he couldn't use matches due to his arm so he lit the cigarette with the lighter and took a drag then exhaled. The second book is 70 fewer pages, so will see if things tighten up.
Good story, but I don't see anyone born after 1990 enjoying this book.
This was a fun departure from the Bosch novels. It has some similarities: There's the bad cop (in this case, FBI agent), you know the protagonist is gonna get the girl and that it's likely he'll lose her, among other things.
But this book is really well written, and the plot twists caught me by surprise. In retrospect, though, they made sense. The major one, Connelly shows you in a way that left me saying, "Wait, what?" and rereading the simple, single line that revealed it. The other twist I saw coming, but only as it was being revealed anyway.
This book is a lot of fun.
