Another great book by Anne Perry. She presents the books in almost a detached way – that is, she doesn't let the class or position of the characters affect their actions or roles. Of course, it's almost a given that the villain will be unexpected because of the social position he/she occupies, but the detectives do not let that influence the search. And the motives are totally reasonable, but equally totally unexpected.
