Local authorities are quick to label a rash of animal mutilations as the work of a grizzly bear, but Wyoming game warden Joe Pickett suspects that something far more sinister is afoot. And when the bodies of two men are found disfigured in the same way, his worst fears are confirmed: A modern-day Jack the Ripper is on the loose - and the killings have just begun.

Back to spend a little time with my second-favorite Wyoming lawman, Joe Pickett. Joe continues to be Joe, standing up for both man and beast. This time, we have a string of terrible animal mutilations. It's bad. And it's escalating. Joe is on the case, naturally, and the race is on to solve it while keeping everyone safe.

We've got land deals, and big game, and intrigue. And Marybeth, who every time I start to tolerate her says or does something annoying to make me mad. And I didn't suspect the ending until it crept up and stared me in the face. On to the next! 3 stars.
