a couple of years ago i was swept away by suzuki's first collection of translated sci-fi shorts. i don't know if it's because the element of surprise is now gone, but this second volume of stories just didn't have the same impact on me. these stories tended to be more straight-forward and absurdist, lacking the emotional depth that struck me the first time around.
