Didn't it used to be called Splatterpunk? Thankfully Edward Lee's story is not too disgusting - "Xipe" is a Lovecraftian story of taboo and blood thirst. Meanwhile Graham Masterton's entry reads like one of Edward Lee's more humorous tales especially given its protagonist. "Night they Missed the Horror Show" is one I've read before - extreme horror and snuff before they really existed. The last couple of stories were the best for me, and again quite funny compared with the rest of it. The variety of 'deviant sex club' stories didn't do it for me and I include the one with a thinly-disguised pop star in it. Charlee Jacob is good and reads like prime Angela Carter (sort of). Another much missed author.

Review of 'Necro Files' on 'Goodreads'

A well rounded collection, with some great, some good and some meh stories across a range of Horror's subgenres. Predictably, G. R. R. Martin and Joe R. Lansdale lead the pack in terms of quality, but Mehitobel Wilson's "Blind in the House of the Headsman" was a delightfully awful story with tight writing and enough left unsaid to engage the imagination.

Worth a read for fans of all types, but nothing to run out and grab right away.
