Fictional Memoir. A Novel containing scattered facts which are interleaved into fictional stories creating a journey through a fictional memoir of the author, which includes growing up in rural Canada, his SNL (TV show) days and many other anecdotes. This is an adventure and a retrospective of life. A humoristic literary work with a very unique style, matching the author's comedic and reflective take on life.

So, a couple of things to state right at the top.

Point One: I'm a long-time fan of Mr Macdonald's. I really enjoy his brand of Shaggy Dog / the-premise-is-the-joke type of joke telling. I can't help but feel that if you aren't at least familiar with his style, his delivery cadence, then you might not get quite as much out of reading this book in print. I listened to the audiobook version, narrated by Mr Macdonald, which ended up feeling a bit more like an extra-long stand up set, and it is the version of the book I would recommend, even if you think you can read the book with his voice in mind.

Point Two: I've said as much on the podcast before, but I am frequently very slow to pick up on things said ironically or when a book is told by an …

Good book but not a memoir

Great book by a great comedian. As he points out himself, from memory; he has been doing standup at everything from small clubs in Ottowa, Ontario, to small clubs in Edmonton, Alberta. He has done standup all over the world except in Asia, Europe, Africa, and South America.

As a fan of the comedy of Norm Macdonald, I was really excited to hear he wrote a book. I am, however, not sure if it would be more funnier or less funnier if I hadn't known him before. He revisits a lot of his old funny material, which was not that entertaining. Except for some of it, and it was nice to get some bits from SNL, one chapter is basically just a list of bits from there.

The book is, as the front page points out, not a memoir, but swirls around a gambling story about himself, his sidekick Adam …

This is Norm MacDonald. If you listen to the audio book you will have the pleasure of hearing himself tell the story. If you read the book you will still hear his voice. It's written like Norm MacDonald talks and it is not possible to not hear his voice delivering the lines.

It is a quick read, like a slightly longer moth joke (which also features in the book). It's not some tell-all where he trashes Don Ohlmeyer, but a story told by Norm MacDonald. If you do not know who Norm MacDonald is or if you know but do not like him then I doubt that this book will be for you.
