Prose a delight to read and there are a bunch of interesting ideas, but, ultimately, it did not work for me.

I'd never read anything by [a:Don DeLillo|233|Don DeLillo|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1401807364p2/233.jpg] and I think this book, [b:The Body Artist|21893584|The Body Artist|Don DeLillo|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1425870522l/21893584.SY75.jpg|1304282], is probably not the best first novel by him to read. Short, but a slog unless you're in tune with what he's going for, which I wasn't. The first section is readable and could serve as a template on how to write that kind of thing well. The rest of it is for people with far larger brains than mine.
A problem with Goodreads ratings is that you're supposed to rate books on whether or not you liked them, not whether on whether or not you thought they were good. Too bad they don't have a two category way of rating them. If they did, I'd give this a five for literary merit and a two for how much I liked it.
