@noybeu great work!
Is there anything that can be done about "legitimate consent"? It's just a loop hole right?
For some websites you have to turn off over 100 of them manually 😨

PSA: @mozilla version 128.0, which is now in general release, opts you in by default to "privacy preserving" advertising data collection by default.
What is collected is explained here:
https://github.com/mozilla/explainers/tree/main/ppa-experiment
Mozilla claims that distributed attribution data - that doesn't identify you personally - is collected, and noise added to prevent anyone from being personally identified.
This is experimental.
A very quick search of Google Scholar shows only about 60 papers on Distributed Attribution Protocol, mostly for #AdTech.
The paper(s) I *don't* see here are attempts to re-identify distributed statistics.
I think the experimentation is a great idea by Mozilla. Opting people in by default is a terrible decision that further erodes trust that people have in the organisation.
Anyway, this toot is to make sure you uncheck the box in your Preferences if you want to.

"LinkedIn is better on the app"
Really? Why not just make it as good as in the browser then, if you are concerned about my user experience? Or are you concerned about your data harvesting experience if I don't use the Android app?
(The last #bigtech app I sometimes check is LinkedIn. Of course from the mobile browser with VPN and privacy plugins).

"Dutch schools advised to reconsider use of social media"

Our advice:
1️⃣ Stop data collecting #fablestrap encouraging platforms such as X, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok
2️⃣ Instead, use decentralized ethical social media such as Mastodon, PixelFed and PeerTube and your own website.
3️⃣ Explain the concept of #SurveillanceCapitalism in the subject #media literacy and point to the good example of the school itself.
@eff when people make weird decisions it's because they have a hidden agenda. In this case it's #surveillancecapitalism in the pocket of lawmakers. Why in the pocket? 'Security', but actually is lazy surveillance.
@eff is there any chance you could investigate privacy issues in the VR space? Specifically #META and #Pico ( #Bytedance ).
Can anyone establish what data is being collected from their headsets?
Adobe's at it now..... (please boost, thanks)
"The current AI craze is a result of this toxic surveillance business model. It is not due to novel scientific approaches that…fundamentally shifted a paradigm."

"'I was misidentified as shoplifter by #FacialRecognition tech...'
"...[Sara] says after her bag was searched she was... banned from all stores using the #Technology.
"I was just crying and crying the entire journey home… 'Oh, will my life be the same? I'm going to be looked at as a shoplifter when I've never stolen'.
"#Facewatch later wrote to Sara and acknowledged it had made an error..."
@kirschner I don't think so-called normies fully understand this one. For future editions, may I suggest:

🌶️ take of the day:
People on #Threads rave about its new Tweetdeck-like web client... which is limited to a few default columns. No list support.
Meanwhile #Mastodon has:
- lists
- real (+ multiple) hashtag support
- a chronological feed
- a PHENOMENAL web client (@cheeaun's @phanpy)
- brilliant 3rd party apps like @ivory and @IceCubesApp
AND it doesn't rely on advertising or #surveillancecapitalism.
I swear I'm gonna make it my mission to get my old network to move over here
