Venture capitalists have a thing they like to say. "We don't invest in ideas. We invest in people." That's true in a couple of ways. Let's get the funny one out of the way: they don't invest in ideas. Check. They invest in people. Specifically, they invest in people who look like they do, because today's venture capitalist was yesterday's startup founder and vice versa. They might as well be saying "we're both investing in our younger selves, and reinvesting in the idea that we've earned our place by perpetuating the idea that the next wave of us will come from the same pool."

I was just talking to a colleague about the AI bubble. These companies are in so deep they can't tell the truth. They are all lying about the efficacy, costs to consumers and most importantly how & when this tech works or doesn't.

Is there enough money on the line to kill over?

There's likely a trillion bucks of valuations across the industry. Billions in sunk costs, billions in c suite remuneration, billions in VC mgmt costs.

Some amazing internet history - here is an image Aaron Swartz and Sam Altman in the same room of the first YCombinator cohort.

The former took his own life prosecuted for downloading a academic articles, the latter scraped the entirety of the internet (copyright be damned) and "founded" a billion dollar company.

We took a hard right on what the internet could have been and it basically started with this image.
