“I laughed, I thought that was brilliant. I just thought, ‘Good on you, Donald.’ Donald’s always been a fan of mine, and he’s been to my concerts many, many times. So, I mean, I’ve always been friendly toward him, and I thank him for his support. When he did that, I just thought it was hilarious. It made me laugh.”

Privilege is a helluva drug, eh? “Oh, that fascist? He’s a fan of mine.”

Shame, used to like the guy.

Bernie Taupin: Scattershot (2023, Hachette Books) 4 stars

Scattershot: Life, Music, Elton, and Me

4 stars

Scattershot: Life, Music, Elton, and Me by Bernie Taupin. Perfect title. Bernie is a brilliant writer, but don’t expect organization. And surprisingly little about his decades of writing lyrics for Elton John. But you’ll get elegantly-written observations about everything from love to drugs to Australia to horses to California. Who knew that Bernie was a champion on the cutting circuit? An entertaining read. #Scattershot #BernieTaupin #EltonJohn #California #Australia #Horses #NetGalley shortestrevs.com/blog/scattershot-life-music-elton-and-me/

Random rabbit-hole fact. 's albums from the late 70s to mid 80s were unremarkable. You'd be lucky to recognize 2 songs from any during that time. However, he put out an album every year from 1978-1986 (and an extra EP in 1979), so that's a lot of and represented a less marketable strategy. IOW, it seems like a bad streak, but it's actually a good one and a testament to his ... I dunno. Work ethic? Love of his art? Artistry? Probably all of the above.
