A new Star Trek adventure based on the thrilling Paramount+ TV seriesStar Trek: Strange New …
Becoming Number One

I loved seeing how Chris Pike and Una Chin-Riley meet and become friends.
The problems she's facing during her time at the academy, the guilt she carries, and how that catches up on her during the Enterprise's current mission is all wonderfully woven together. I loved seeing some of the SNW crew as well, especially one member was fun as always. More of them please!
The new species we meet and its history and situation are very interesting and I liked everything about it. Very current, very important.
Una McCormack does, once again, not disappoint. Could she ever?!
As always, I recommend her interview about this book on the Literary Treks podcast.
Edit: And here‘s her interview with Positively Trek.
Finished Asylum (2024) by Una McCormack and I loved it! The novel is about an alien species’ struggles that affect Una and Pike at Starfleet Academy and on the Enterprise.
I usually love anything having to do with the Academy and that part of this story in 2233 is no exception. It’s wonderful to see Una in her senior year and Pike as an Ensign guest lecturer. 1/5 #StarTrekSNW#StarTrek#bookstodon
Of course, if you're stuck on earth in the past, you look up Pelia. It'd be the first thing I'd do. In fact, can we please have a series of Pelia stories throughout history? Omg, they would be soooo cool! #PeliaAsTimeLord#StarTrekSNW#StarTrekStrangeNewWorlds
The one thing that disappointed me in season 2, was the Christine Chapel / Spock arc.
First they are pining for each other for ages, then finally they get together, but we never really see another scene with them, before two episodes later their relationship already starts falling apart and not much later ends unceremoniously for pretty weak reasons? What was going on there? Did I miss something?
I am loving #StrangeNewWorlds's wraparound windows on the edge of the Enterprise saucer. They look great in the sets, they're immediately identifiable on the exterior, and we get those lovely tracking shots in and out.
- I 1000% teared up when Boimer said the slogan on Una's recruitment poster. The only nitpick I have - which has nothing to do with the episode itself - is that the poster the Paramount+ social media team released after the “Ad Astra Per Aspera” episode doesn't match the animated one, which I didn't realize had been released until now. - "But I wonder...if, someday, you're not around anymore, how many people on this ship would wish they had another day to talk to you?" 😭 - One of the things I'm loving about SNW is Pike. He hasn't been the focus of many episodes this season (was Anson Mount filming another project?), but he brings a certain je ne sais quoi even when he's in the background (like cooking for Spock's engagement dinner with T'Pring's family). I especially loved in this episode how he was so willing to be emotionally vulnerable with strangers who are also ship subordinates. Monita Mohan had a great article on Pike: https://collider.com/anson-mount-captain-pike-star-trek-masculinity-explained.
I can't wait to watch this episode again for all the Easter Eggs I missed the first time around.
Notice how alternate Captain Spock's Vulcan insignia in #StarTrekSNW's "Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow"↖️↙️ matches the 22nd century Vulcan Captain rank pin introduced on #StarTrekENT ("Stigma"↗️↘️). I love this continuity! :-)
Kirk's terracotta sculpture, seen in several #StarTrekTOS episodes ("Mudd's Women"⬇️) is briefly seen in his ready/conference room in the alternate timeline in #StarTrekSNW's "Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow"⬆️.
I am not going to name names or accounts in this but I think we’ve all seen some of these posts before.
I’ve just been reading another thread where someone was ranting about #StarTrekSNW. Going on and on about how awful it is (and how awful #Picard is). Picking out specific points from episodes and being overly critical. Even when someone points out the flaws in their argument or just has a different opinion, they still keep going, getting angrier and angrier.
The first question that comes to mind is “why do you watch it then?” It is your absolute right to not like something and your absolute right to have an opinion but why keep watching? You don’t have to watch things you don’t like.
I tried to watch Poker Face. Watched E1 and didn’t really enjoy it. Guess what…I didn’t watch E2…it really is that …

I tried to watch Poker Face. Watched E1 and didn’t really enjoy it. Guess what…I didn’t watch E2…it really is that simple. At no point did I have the urge to go online and completely trash it. Some people will have enjoyed it, fair play to them. They’ve found a series they like.
I don’t understand why anyone would continue to watch something they don’t like and then actively argue about it.
To quote Gene Roddenberry:
“Star Trek was an attempt to say humanity will reach maturity and wisdom on the day that it begins not just to tolerate but take a special delight in differences in ideas and differences in lifeforms.”
We’re all different and have different opinions. My opinion is that these people who shout their hatred from the rooftops have completely missed the point of Star Trek and the values that it tries to demonstrate.
In a nutshell, if you don’t like something, don’t watch it. Accept that some people do like it, respect their opinion and move on with your life. There is no need to pile on to people because they like something you don’t.
