Terry Pratchett’s on Tolkien’s influence on fantasy:
J.R.R. Tolkien has become a sort of mountain, appearing in all subsequent fantasy in the way that Mt. Fuji appears so often in Japanese prints. Sometimes it’s big and up close. Sometimes it’s a shape on the horizon. Sometimes it’s not there at all, which means that the artist either has made a deliberate decision against the mountain, which is interesting in itself, or is in fact standing on Mt. Fuji.

You don't grow old there, not quickly, anyway, because nothing grows, learns, builds, or even imagines anything new. They're there to convince the Queen that she's somehow all-powerful as well as carefree, fun, and infallible.

J’ai quelques #Pratchett dans ma #pal et je n’ai que trop tardé à les ouvrir.
Son #livre « De bons présages » (cosigné avec Gaiman) est divinement barré et diaboliquement addictif ! C’est mon #VendrediLecture et je le recommande pour le vôtre.
J’en regretterais presque ma résiliation #Amazon Prime. Presque, car les livres sont toujours meilleurs, selon moi : on n’est pas limité par l’imagination du réalisateur.

Made my way through my first Discworld novel, Mort, and I really enjoyed it. Casual read that could easily be put down and picked up again. Nice amount of absurdity. The stand alone nature of the story was refreshing. At the same time knowing it's part of a greater wholemade finishing it not sad.
Went with Mort as it was the first in Death's sub-series and I enjoy tales about concepts personified. Helps keeping it absurd.

Latest find in my first attempt reading "House Of Leaves" is a proper #Pratchett style match cut in literary format.
The poll spoke and I listened: I now also ship to the UK and (even though it's really expensive) to Canada!
For the occasion, I looked for the most British photo possible and I couldn't find anything better than Tiffany Aching, one of my favorite Pratchett characters, in the rain. Yes, it's a cliché, and no, I'm not ashamed. :)

I was passed a signed first? edition of a #Pratchett book today because it's original owner had died, their daughter didn't want it but wanted someone who would be chuffed by it to have it and my wife had mentioned in passing that she had made a shelf for my full Discworld collection which apparently means I'm the kind of guy who should have it.
Which is nice all round if you ask me.

Die Fortsetzung von "Ab die Post" beschäftigt sich mit dem Bankwesen und seinen Auswüchsen. Natürlich auf die übliche, amüsante Weise von Terry Pratchett. Nicht umwerfend komisch und nicht mit dem Reiz der durch einen neuen Protagonisten entstand aber trotzdem gut.

I didn't need the Book as I already have two copies, but I bought Night Watch by Sir Terry Pratchett as it's now a Penguin Classic... A bloody Penguin Classic... Best book he wrote imo.... Did I mention it's a Penguin Classic
