This is an incredibly interesting book to end the year with. I was often on the fence while reading it, in deciding if I loved it or not but chapter 15 completely won me over.

This story understands what gods mean to us on a very personal level, to the individual person: how our culture travels and is passed down. It evolves, and without it we are lost. The main character himself, I think, represents this take on a godless person: a shadow of a man that loses a name he didn’t even have to begin with.

This is one of those books that I’ll recommend to friends to overanalyse together.
