The Magnolia Sword : 4 stars</i


I really liked this! When I think of Mulan I have the Disney Mulan in mind, and reading another version of this "Ballad of Mulan", was a very good experience.

The story unfurled swiftly, with "slow" moments where the characters were explored, as well as the politics and the war aspects.. and "action" moments with great fight scenes.

We follow Mulan, (a baddass lady in every version), and a band of soldiers going to help fight the brewing war and there is some romance (not too much), camaderie, and even talks about war and history, about how history is usually told from the victor's side, etc.
We also learn a little about Chinese, culture, language and it I really liked reading about all of these^^

(Spoiler alert : there is no Mushu in this lol)
