James Scott Bell: How to Write Short Stories And Use Them to Further Your Writing Career (Paperback, 2016, Compendium Press) 3 stars

I’m very disappointed in this book. I expected more on the craft of actually writing short stories, but his one useful point - that all short stories need a “shattering moment” - could have been put in a blog post. Also a good chunk of the book is about how to use KDP, which I didn't sign up for. The second half the book is the republishing of five examples of short stories, one being the author’s own, and all being quite old, because they were free to use, I guess.

If you are into tattooed, bearded über-macho men who are hopeless at expressing their feelings in any other way than anger and violence, you'll probably enjoy this book. I'm not, so I didn't get knocked out by Knox. Also, I didn't much care for the co-dependent personality of Naomi either. This novel way too many clichés, stereotypes and drama for my liking. I read the first 240 pages or so, and then skipped to the end.
