Barry Lane: But How Do You Teach Writing? (Paperback, 2008, Scholastic Teaching Resources (Theory an) 4 stars

Not some boring textbook, but good for 3rd graders and up

4 stars

IF you've got a youngster (say 3rd grade on up) and they're struggling with writing, then I definitely recommend this book. This is NOT a book for Grammar Nazis, but rather one for getting kiddos a leg-up on writing for school papers and reports, and on different styles of writing. It's got a lot of humor in it, and some examples from the author himself when he was a kid. It has plenty of ideas to stimulate interest and break down some of the rules that make kids turn off of writing in the first place.

This is a great resource for home schoolers or anyone who has to teach writing to kids. It's not some stupid state textbook, but a real-world, down-to-Earth book for the rest of us.
