John Buckingham Foster: Marx's Ecology (2000, Monthly Review Press)

degroth communism from before it was cool

John Bellamy Foster is undoubtedly a poly math. his work in this book traces the ecological roots of Marx. Frankly Foster's position that Marx was always an ecologist is to me far more convincing than Saito's ecological tern argument.

Terry Eagleton: After theory (2003, Allen Lane)

The golden age of cultural theory (the product of a decade and a half, from …

profound, but ramblly

Eagltons work touches on a number of topics. Marxism, religion, literary criticism, virtue ethics. He shares many illuminating thoughts, and presents many strong arguments, but its easy to get lost in the disorganization ramblings.

Kohei Saito, Brian Bergstrom: Slow Down: The Degrowth Manifesto (Astra House)

great book, but Hickel done it better

Slow down is the popular science version of Saito's academic work "Marx in the anthropocene". It essentially serves as an introduction to degrowth communism. In this regard, "Less is More" By Jason Hickle is just better. This work does include Saito's weak argument about Marx's late life turn towards ecology, and turn away from the progressive view of history.

Jason Hickel: Less Is More (2021, Penguin Random House)

The world has finally awoken to the reality of climate breakdown and ecological collapse. Now …

Hickel

This is an incredible and important work, if your looking for an introduction of what degrowth communism is, and why its important, get this one, or Slow Down by Kohei Saito, but honestly Hickel's is probably better.

Shon Faye: The Transgender Issue (Hardcover, 2021, Allen Lane)

Trans people in Britain today have become a culture war 'issue'. Despite making up less …

This work is a real page turner. Faye is an incredible writer. You wont want to put this down. This work has guided a lot of my activism as a transgender socialist.

Wage Labour and Capital (German: Lohnarbeit und Kapital) is the text of the 1847 lectures …

must read for anyone intrested in socialism

This pamphlet is incredibly important to the movement for socialism. it explains in an incredibly approachable way how workers are exploited by the wage labor system under capitalism. This work is about economics, but it is made for a wide audience of the working class, so its a genuinely well written and approachable.

don't worry about capital (for now), read this.
