Irène Némirovsky: Le bal (French language, 1985, Grasset) 4 stars

Teenage angst has paid off well / Now I'm bored and old.

3 stars

I waited some time to write my thoughts about this book. A fourteen year old living with her newly rich parents who neglect her to focus on their outside image. Her parents decide to give a ball, she decides to ruin it in a fit of rage. I personally don't like teenage angst books, but I might be projecting because. I also don't like second-hand embarrassment. (Apparently I don't like a lot of things.) So, not a good combo. 3 stars from me because I liked how Némirovsky played with the build up.
