I thought the book was good. It seemed to cover a lot of the same ideas as "The Power of Habit", though this book is more focused on putting the ideas into practice as opposed to the science behind why things work. Also, I read the Spanish translation since that's the version read by most of the people that recommended me this book.
Can't remember the last time I read the first book (probably in high school). Decided to read it again but in Spanish this time. I'm always amazed at how easily I get hooked into these books. Goal is to work my way through the entire series by the end of the year.
This book was good and presented some very unique ideas on potential alien life, however the book wasn't as good as Ender's Game or Ender's Shadow.
I love when stories are retold from a different perspective. I loved Ender's Game, so when I heard about Ender's Shadow which is told from the viewpoint of a different character, I knew I had to read it. I like how it was a good blend of retelling the story from a different perspective, but it was also a unique story with its own plot and drama. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that there were a few brief section that really made me roll my eyes (including a speech where "and then everybody clapped"). But otherwise I loved this book and would definitely recommend it!
I liked this book about as much as XKCD. The chapters, like the comic, were hit or miss. But the misses are worth enduring in order to experience the hits.
I'll note that I haven't seen the movie yet, but I plan to after having read the book. The story was really great, though often sad. One thing that stands out about this book is that the ending is perfect. I won't go into details/spoilers, but most books either end too soon or too late, or they find some other way to leave the reader unsatisfied; but The Color Purple avoids all these defects. I also really enjoyed how plot-driven the book was. Something was always happening, which made the book a very quick read.
Loved the movie, though it's been a long while since I watched it. The book follows very closely to the movie. I almost accidentally skipped the beginning author's note before realizing that it is actually part of the overall story.
First time I've read this book since high school. I'm surprised at how much I remembered (despite not necessarily remembering that the idea was from 1984).
