Canadian reader/writer who favours newer literary fiction and some non-fiction. Joining in November so I'm not sure what to select for annual reading goal, but I typically read 1-3 books per month.

As a Canadian, I try to read the books that have been shortlisted for the Giller prize, (Canada's biggest fiction prize). Fresh story and topic, about a (closeted) gay man working as a porter on a cross-Canada train ride.
I keep recommending this book to friends, and adding, "if there's a bare-chested man on the cover, don't be turned away." This book is a smart and fun take on sexuality in an older (young 60s?) female professor who is also close to a #metoo-style scandal at her small American university. It's a fast, fun, literary read.
I have slowed my pace in reading this book because I don't want it to end.
