I was wondering why this seemed a bit more simplistic than [b:The Blade Itself|944073|The Blade Itself (The First Law, #1)|Joe Abercrombie|https://d2arxad8u2l0g7.cloudfront.net/books/1284167912s/944073.jpg|929009] (The First Law Series.) Then I read that it's a YA novel. Oooooookkthankyouthismakesmoresensenow.

Not as grim as grey. Not as gritty as dusty. Still a pretty fun read.

I might have read [a:Mark Lawrence|4721536|Mark Lawrence|https://d2arxad8u2l0g7.cloudfront.net/authors/1318781585p2/4721536.jpg] recently where you have a post-apocalyptic northern European twist to it all so Yarvi and Jorg keep getting mixed up in my head. Same with some of the other characters but it's what you get when you all live in the same region.

Regardless of the mental gymnastics I've been doing keeping worlds, stories, and characters segregated to their own pens if you want the lighter meal of Abercrombie's work this seems to fit well. Easy read, easy entertainment. Looking forward to the rest of the series to see how it moves forward since the first book in it wraps up very succinctly.
