My 5 Y.O. son picked this out at the library for me to read to him. We have read other Geronimo stilton books before, so we were kind of familiar with their format. This one was a bit of a slog to get through. For a children's book, it is incredibly dense and very boring at times, especially compared to many other Stilton books (of which there are many)

If you want a story that has serious consequences for the character's actions, and doesn't necessarily end in a 'Happily ever after' this is for you. This book pits it's young protagonists up against some very deadly threats, and you never know who is going to live or die. Be prepared for a lot of child trauma. These kids go through a lot.

This book starts off with some really heavy and violent themes, So be prepared for that. The story is dark, but the characters are unique and interesting, each, it seems, playing an important role in a story that is revealing itself as I go. So far, I give it a 4/5 stars.

Absolutely wonderful story. It is at times unbelievably dark and grim, and then at other times almost magical in it's beauty. Jimenez's unique style gives the reader insight into the world the protagonists travel upon, by allowing us to peer into the thoughts and dreams of others. This book covers many themes. Love and War, Greed and Hate, Honor and Family, and many many more, as well as the marriage and intersection of these themes. This book explores the history of a fictional world from the past, the present, and from somewhere entirely in-between. It is dark, complex, and beautiful, and I couldn't recommend it more than I already am
