This is not a bad book, per se; the vignettes are well-drawn and the stories cover a broad sweep of the relevant history. But I was hoping, perhaps for something less personal and more historical, particularly on the ebb and flow of Juneteenth’s celebration in Texas and its recent turn into a more national(?) event.
