Why this book is called "What lives in the woods" is beyond me - the woods are only marginally involved, if at all. Most of the time the story takes place inside the manor... I'd say this book was rather average: not bad, but also not exceptionally good, and the explanation for the haunting and the ending of the book were rather obvious, imho.

Someone on GoodReads commented on this book "I feel like I read a whole book and somehow missed the entire plot", and that exactly describes my reading experience. The plot was so confusing and going nowhere, the characters sometimes seemed interchangeable because they lacked any real personality, and some scenes in the book felt like "Is this happening right now, or is it something someone tells me has happened?" It's a pity because it seemed interesting and I initially read it because I wanted to read the sequel... which I'm now not sure I'll ever read, tbh.
