I think my favorite things about this book are the characters which were very well developed and the descriptions of the environments. In some of the books I've read recently, you have one or two main characters that have great depth but that wasn't the case here. There was a whole cast of characters that you can really care about and understand. They have motivations, cares, and fears. I had fun trying to imagine how each of them spoke. It felt like the main characters were really struggling and the author really makes you care what's going to happen to them next. Then you followed them through the streets of 1920s New York and the descriptions brought the city and the time to life for me.

The writing was very polished and I was able to immerse myself in the story. Overall, I really enjoyed Out of Time and I've …

This book was so different from anything I've ever read before that I find it impossible to compare it to anything else. I was startled at first when I found it was written in the first person, present tense point of view. Once I got past my initial surprise, I was laughing out loud within the first few pages.

Most of the story is told by Jade, a California, suburban, house wife. She ends up convincing her friends, Chloe and Suzie, to skip a spa weekend to go train for self defense. They get to put their new skills to work when they're taken hostage by terrorists. The story does take a little serious turn here but there is still comic relief as the women try to cope with the situation.

There is an odd point in the story where several passages are in the third person point of view …

Angela Dawe, Christine Kling: Circle of Bones (AudiobookFormat, Brilliance Audio)

I got this title when it was free for Kindle. It isn't typical of my reading choices but I thought I'd give it a go for something different. I'm glad that I did. I enjoyed the strong female presence of Maggie Riley. She's intelligent, strong, and sexy but not infallible. I enjoyed the male protagonists as well. Cole and Theo are a great compliment to Maggie's personality. The danger and conflicts throughout the book kept my attention to the end.

The main villain is satisfyingly diabolical and remorseless. I'll leave out any detail to avoid giving anything away. I didn't particularly care for the secondary villains. Personally, I didn't feel they were as well written. Their dialogue just didn't feel natural to me. Their actions and motivations were understandable though and I think my dislike is more personal than anything.

A fair portion of the story takes place on boats. …

I started reading the novels because of the HBO series. I'm very glad that I did. In many cases, there's a sense of disappointment in the differences between books and the television shows or movies made from them. This isn't the case with the A Song of Ice and Fire series.

In this second novel of the series, we find the land split with multiple kings fighting one another for the right to power. I was excited to find my favorite characters from the first novel continue their journeys and face new troubles. The main characters have a great deal of depth. The author has continued his pattern of writing each chapter from the point of view of one of those main characters. This is a must read for anyone who enjoyed the first novel. I don't know if I can wait for the third season of the show to …
