2021 reread: Another readthrough and this time it was from a more Marxist perspective that I was able to better understand the context and characters here, particularly the adults. Also the theme of unhealthy thoughts lead to unhealthy life while healthy thoughts lead to healthy life, so replace one with the other by focusing on natural beauty and growth--this is timeless, but I gotta say I am at a point in my life where another reminder is nice!

2018 reread: As a kid there was a stretch of years where I read this once every year. I read it at least five times. This book is like an old friend I used to rely on to comfort me. I easily retreated into the transformative garden depicted in these pages.

Rereading it again after at least 10 years, I can appreciate it from a more experienced perspective. I love the story even more, especially the way it makes you want to get out into nature yourself. The author does such a great job describing the everyday actions of nature and imbuing them with magic. I don't see how anyone could read this and not see the world wake up around them just like Mary and Colin learn to do.
