I thought the book dragged a bit, and I was planning to take a break from the series, but that ending went hard.
There is still burning though we live in a democracy erected over a burial ground. / This was given to me to speak. / Every poem is an effort at ceremony.
Loved the first book in the series. The next two were different from what I expected, but well written.
How to care for the injured body,
the kind of body that can’t hold
the content it is living?
And where is the safest place when that place
must be someplace other than in the body?
I didn’t like the shift away from Area X to the Southern Reach, esp the office politics and spy stuff.
A bit rambling, but touching portraits of people and towns torn apart by the border and the violence of maintaining it.
