Neil Gaiman: The Sandman Vol. 2 (Paperback, 2018, Vertigo)

This volume feels better than the first without quite hitting the spot for me.

The way the gods are treated, especially Morpheus, is much more interesting this time around. They're enigmatic, beyond the ability for humans to deal with. Whereas Morpheus was so weakened in volume 1 that he felt little more than a superhero, here he truly feels like a god.

But he's also sidelined for much of this volume. We follow Rose around as her and her family's lives are repeatedly upheaved in various ways, some eldritch and some not. And this is an interesting plotline, no doubt, but I felt like I was always waiting to see more of Morpheus and the Dreaming whenever Rose was off being mundane. She didn't feel like an overly active character, which I guess is the point but it makes her parts less interesting to get through.

So overall I like a lot of this better, but I'm not big on Rose. I doubt we're done with her but I'm definitely wanting to see where this goes next.
