Catherine Osborne: Presocratic Philosophy (2004, Oxford University Press, USA)

Goodreads Review of Presocratic Philosophy: A Very Short Introduction

This is as well-done as I think these "very short introductions" can be. Osborne breaks away from chronology and standard overviews while doing justice to all of the major presocratic figures. The chapters on Parmenides, Empedocles, and Heraclitus were the best, but all were so well written.
