The drama is more subtle in this installment of the collaborative Mongoliad series. The historical weaving is done very well as far as I can tell, with interesting contrasts like dualistic-minded Cathars portrayed in a less dualistic style than the previous books. It made for characters viewed in a less good and evil light, which I find more interesting.
