Not my taste

2 stars

A collection of dark short stories. Many reminded me of fairytails in a modern setup adding creep-factor through absurdity or surrealism. The outcome of the stories felt too predictable oftentimes. Othertimes I couldn't get a grasp about what the story is about, like what exactly is it critizing or referring to. Maybe the language barrier or my missing understand of the south korean culture led me miss out a lot there.

Giuliano Da Empoli: Le mage du Kremlin (Paperback, 2022, GALLIMARD) 4 stars

Russian pride

Highly recommend for those who seek to understand more about russians path leading to war a with Ukraine. The story spans from the end of UDSSR to the start of the war and tries to give an understanding of how Putin ruled the country. Important aspects that are highlighted in the book: the role of oligarchs; the confrontations with the West; patriotism and ideology of Putin.

Memorable character, loved the images and metaphors used to describe the feelings of the people living in the grey zone. Didn't know what to expect when reading and then got pulled into the story very fast. Want to read more.from.the author in the future
