greeny finished reading The Fig Tree by Goran Vojnović
When I visit other countries I developed the habit to dig a little bit in its literature. In Slovenia in a bigger book store a friendly employer showed me the shelf with Slovenian literature translated into other languages. I'm really glad to get this one recommended. Vojonovic is an amazing story teller and I'm looking forward to read more from him. Big kudos to the translation as well. This book about a family story based in Yugoslavia/Slovenia is a story about being human, inner growth, despair, love and much more. And the latter is the thing what I really liked. It plays in the setting of Yugoslavia and its breakup, spanning over three generations, but it doesn't end up in a history novel. It really stays very close with their main characters and their voyage.
