For me, all these books run together. I’m writing myself a quick summary just for the next time I look back on this.
Essentially where the first book leaves off is that they’ve just left the planet of planet builders and escaped the two mice that wanted to dissect Arthur’s brain to find the question of the meaning to life the universe and everything.
The restaurant at the end of the universe introduces the concept that Zaphoid caused himself to forget why he’d wanted to become president of the galaxy (or whatever) and essentially it was to find the person who actually runs the universe behind the scenes. There’s a very charming scene with that very clueless person (completely unaware that they’re making these important decisions, or maybe just careless about them), and we also see Arthur and Ford get teleported to earth 2 million years in the past.
This book ends without much resolution for Arthur and Ford, but it still felt nicely concluded.
