Reiterate that you are not perfect. That you may be distracted and overwhelmed by your own life, so you may not read their nonverbal cues that something is wrong. But you will immediately stop and pay attention if they say, “Something is wrong and I need your help.” Remind them that there are other people in their lives who will do the same.
