Our theme for our upcoming book club is, of course, haunted houses. Not my usual read…stupid people staying in a creepy old house…you get what you deserve. But this book was different - the writing was excellent and the way the stories connected kept me engaged. I highly recommend it.

You have to give this book a chance. The book is short and the writing is beautiful, so that makes it easier, but there were several moments where I was thinking - “Come on…if there is no plot, I at least need some character development.” But the book gets to its heart about halfway through. And it is worth it.
I almost gave this 3 stars because it was “predictable” but then the author caught me off guard again. I didn’t like this as much as The Silent Patient, but enjoyed the interesting twist.
This probably deserves 4 stars, but I’m really not a mystery reader.
