Tsja. 5 sterren was het toch nooit geworden, want het genre (horror? Fantasy?) is niet echt mijn genre. Het boek is goed geschreven, origineel qua setting, maar schiet wel een beetje door in pompeuze zinnen, bombastische Jeroen Bosch-achtige scenes en in mijn ogen overdreven gruwelijke beschrijvingen. Of lees je juist daarvoor dit soort boeken? En is het juist daardoor niet mijn genre? De combinatie van middeleeuwse heksenangst in een moderne en zeer herkenbare setting (Beek bij Nijmegen anno nu, compleet beschreven met social media en tablets) is knap uitgewerkt en trekt mijn uiteindelijke oordeel toch weer naar drie sterren. Maar fan van het genre ben ik er niet door geworden.
