Katherine Villyard reviewed Kushiel's Dart by Jacqueline Carey

I feel like I should say something Serious [TM] about this book, but meh. Instead, I'm just going to comment that:
As a tattooed person, I was dismayed by the cavalier treatment of Phedre's mark. She was flogged on a relatively fresh tattoo, and then Voldemar cut her back (near her tattoo), and I kept waiting for the scene where the tattooist had to come in and make repairs to his work, but no.
Now I feel a little silly, because it seems like everyone else's review concentrates on the ritual/sacred prostitution and/or the BDSM. But perhaps nitpicking on the tattoo points out that the entire novel is fantasy, including the prostitution and BDSM elements. Which probably doesn't need to be pointed out, but you know.
