As the series goes on, Rowling's prose style improves but her plotting gets looser and looser. I suspect the latter is a product of pressure on her to produce a book fast. There are also a number of annoying continuity errors in this book. The most vexing is the one where Hermione says she's never done a memory charm before after describing the way she modified her parents' memories to protect them.
