This might be my favorite of the Alpha & Omega books. Even though the villain is deeply and viscerally upsetting, I love the characters of Joseph, Mackie, and Hepzebah so much it makes up the difference. Not to mention the ultimate message, that love is worth the inevitable pain of losing the ones we love.
