Simone de Beauvoir: The Ethics Of Ambiguity (Paperback, 2000, Citadel) 3 stars

Review of 'The Ethics Of Ambiguity' on Goodreads

3 stars

Dense read, I think I agree with the central point that ethics is in tension between individual expression and our context of relationship/dependency to society, and idealism does not resolve this by picking sides. Instead ethics should be a method and process. "To say that [existence] is ambiguous is to assert that its meaning is never fixed, that it must be constantly won." Whether this gets there, less sure.
